Education

Punahou: Class of 2016

Punahou is not a school to merely drift through, the Punahou experience is really quite something. Growing up bleeding Buff n’ Blue, my world was heavily impacted the moment I was accepted into the Punahou ‘Ohana (family).

Attending such an established institution was a true blessing and privilege. I was able to experience everything from drowning in a pool (our cardboard boat didn’t quite make it to the end) to lighting a massive P on fire every year. From the big things like our annual Punahou Carnival, sports events, and quite literally our campus to the little things like having our own college counselor, freedom to choose our own curriculum, and the many food options available Punahou shaped my world and outlook on it.

UCLA: Class of 2020

Born bleeding Buff n’ Blue, it was only fitting I continue at a school where I will die bleeding Blue and Yellow. A powerhouse in not only athletics but research as well, UCLA was not my first choice in undergraduate education.

In fact, I had no first choice in colleges.

Coming to UCLA with no expectations and merely excited to leave the island I called home for 17 years, the college experience has been far from “the college experience” most seem to rejoice about.

I take that back, I am in fact still a tired, mostly broke college student, so I guess the stereotypes are spot on in that aspect.

UCLA has such a wealth of resources that taping into all of them would take me this lifetime and the next. Meeting new people, talking to my professors (or not talking to some of them), making friends (or trying to…) has all opened new doors for me in my life.

As my journey continues, UCLA continues to unlock new possibilities and makes it possible for me to take one step closer to my goals everyday. However, it remains up to me to take those steps to establishing my dreams as reality.
